A motorist was shot and killed outside a bank in Old Main Road in Kloof in Durban’s Outer West region on Tuesday early in Tuesday night.
Netcare 911 paramedics spokesperson Shawn Herbst said that paramedics had responded to the scene of the crime at around 6.41 pm in the evening.
“Netcare 911 responded to a shooting outside a bank on Old Main Road Kloof, Durban West region. Reports indicate that an adult male had been shot while waiting in his car,” Herbst said.
“The patient was assessed on the scene by a Netcare 911 paramedic and found to have sustained fatal injuries and sadly declared deceased on the scene,” Herbst said.
“Circumstances leading up to the shooting will be investigated by the relevant authorities,” he said.
A KZN SAPS spokesperson had not responded to a request for comment regarding the shooting at the time of publication on Tuesday night.
The latest shooting incident follows the murder of a tow-truck driver in Kingsway Road in Amanzimtoti in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to paramedics the two truck driver sustained multiple gun-shot wounds in a drive-by-shooting. His passenger also sustained multiple gun-shot wounds and was transported to hospital in a critical condition. The suspects, who were armed with heavy calibre rifles, fled the scene in their getaway vehicle.
SAPS spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
“It is alleged that on 20 June at 02:45, two males were in a tow truck when they were shot by unknown suspects who fled in their getaway vehicle. A 25-year-old driver sustained gunshot wounds on the head and was declared dead at the scene,” she said.
“ A 22-year-old passenger sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital for medical attention. The matter is still under investigation.”
