Mother killed in Fochille accident, husband and 4-year-old son injured

Paramedics said a mother believed to be in her 40s has died while her husband and 4-year-old son were injured in a single-vehicle rollover on the notorious N12.

ER24 spokesperson Ross Campbell said the accident happened about 3km outside Fochville this afternoon.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene at 16:09 along with GPG, the Fire and Traffic Departments to find a Mitsubishi SUV, on its side on the side of the road.

“The woman, a passenger and believed to be the wife/mother, was found on the ground, 5 meters from the vehicle. She, unfortunately, showed no signs of life and was declared dead on arrival by GPG.

He furthermore said the exact cause of the incident is unknown to ER24. However, the South African Police Services were on the scene for further investigations.

Meanwhile, the newly-elected Mayor of Johannesburg, Jolidee Matongo (46), was killed in a car accident on Saturday.

It is believed he died in a car accident on Saturday, hours after participating in an ANC electioneering programme with President Cyril Ramaphosa in Soweto.

He had been appointed as mayor on 10 August and served in the position for just over a month.

Matongo had been elected unopposed as Joburg mayor, succeeding Geoff Makhubo, who died in July of Covid-19 complications.
